Engelland Suspended Three Games
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Deryk Engelland was suspended for three games Thursday for an illegal hit that occurred Tuesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Engelland delivered a blow to the head of Chicago center Marcus Kruger and will be forced to miss Friday's game at Winnipeg, along with games Tuesday against Carolina and Thursday against Philadelphia.
NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said Engelland made Kruger's head the point of emphasis with contact and left his feet to make the hit. Both are violations and resulted in the suspension even though Engelland is considered a first-time offender.
You can watch Shanahan's full explanation and video documenting the hit here.
