Employers Hiring For Seasonal Jobs
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –If you need some extra cash for the holidays now is a great time to look for a job.
Pick any major store and chances are they are hiring. But don't limit yourself to just retail.
What can brown do for you? It can put some cash in your pocket.
UPS is hiring – 55,000 seasonal workers to be exact. More than 700 of them will be in the Pittsburgh area.
UPS expects to deliver more than 120 million packages in the week before Christmas, and to make it all happen, the shipping giant needs plenty of help.
To see what it takes to be a seasonal worker at UPS, KDKA's Susan Koeppen suited up in brown.
Koeppen filled the position of driver's helper and teamed up with veteran driver Josh Borkowski.
A driver's helper does just that -- help. There is a lot of lifting, up to 70 pounds, and lots of walking in any type of weather.
If UPS isn't your speed, there are plenty of seasonal jobs out there.
Retailers alone will be hiring an estimated 500,000 people this year.
Major retailers like Macy's make it easy to find seasonal jobs on its website.
Potential employees can also check sites like indeed.com and snagajob.com. All you have to do is type in seasonal and your location, and a list of jobs will pop up.
We found jobs for a photography studio, a sales associate at the gap, and a team member at target.
As for pay, the average hourly wage for a seasonal worker is $10.60 per hour.
At UPS a driver's helper makes $8.50 an hour. The best part is you and the driver can pick a place to meet and you can work in your neighborhood.
Holiday jobs go fast!
But there is still time, UPS is still hiring.
According to a recent survey by Career Builder, 33 percent of employers who are hiring seasonal staff will still be looking this month, and 11 percent will be recruiting as late as December.
