Fatal Rollover Crash Closes Down Parkway East
WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- A woman was killed following a rollover crash on the Parkway East near the Wilkinsburg exit Wednesday night.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. on the inbound side of the road, near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel. The car rolled over and ended up on its side.
Kelli Keane, 43, was behind the wheel of a Mercury Contour when she lost control of the vehicle in the inbound lane of the Parkway East.
State Police said she was leaving the left lane, began going to the right and over-corrected.
"She actually hit the concrete barrier on the bridge. That concrete barrier keeps you from falling off that bridge," Tpr. Robin Mungo said.
Investigators said the car flipped over at least twice. Keane was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were two passengers in the car - a 41-year-old man was in the front seat and a 15-year-old girl in back.
Both were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
State Police said when emergency crews arrived, the 15-year-old girl was screaming, "Help my mom, please help my mom."
Investigators said Keane was not wearing a seat belt, but the passengers were.
State police had to close down the Parkway between the Churchill and Edgewood-Swissvale exits while they investigated and cleared the scene late Wednesday night.
The Parkway East inbound was closed for more than five hours.
