Elderly Woman Rescued After Plunging Car Into Golf Course Water Hazard

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Rescue crews were called in after an elderly woman drove her car into a water hazard at a golf course in McMurray.

Police say 92-year-old Mary David of Mount Lebanon had just pulled into a parking space at the Valley Brook Country Club. She thought her car was in the park position, but it wasn't.

Mindy Keane is a member of the club in Washington County and arrived shortly after the accident, which happened just after 10 a.m.

"I was told that a woman who plays bridge here at Valley Brook dropped a woman off, went to park her car, and instead of braking, she gave it gas," said Keane.

David didn't make her bridge game; instead, she was transported to St. Clair Hospital even though she insisted she was all right.

Ironically, David never unfastened her seat belt. So when she plowed down the 150-foot embankment – taking out tree limbs on the way down – her seat belt was still around her.

She landed in the Chartiers Creek, which is a water hazard on the course, and was rescued.

"They rescued her out of the water, with I think some kind of a... I'm not sure, but they said like a little pontoon boat and the water was up to her window," said Keane.
