NWS Confirms EF-0 Tornado Touches Down Along Butler And Allegheny Counties Border
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) - The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in the region on Monday.
The NWS said a survey showed an EF-0 tornado touched down in the Cranberry/Seven Fields area along the Butler and Allegheny counties border.
Officials said wind reached 70 miles per hour in the tornado near Mt. Pleasant and Dean roads.
The tornado occurred, based on radar imagery, between 2:53 p.m. and 2:55 p.m.
One woman who KDKA's Jennifer Borrasso talked to said the strongest winds and hardest rain latest about 10 minutes.
"They were incredibly forceful, the noise, it felt like a tornado," said Eileen Minnock of Pine Township.
Minnock was babysitting her 2-year-old grandson when she heard the tornado warning. They ran to the basement.
"It was pretty scary," she said.
Up the street on Pinkerton Road, Minnock's neighbor described what she saw.
"I could see what looked like rotation of wind in the storm. It was rolling down the street so I went down to the basement," said Heidi McMurry.
