Ed Bouchette: Pieces Just Aren't There
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – 93-7 The Fan Steelers insider and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Ed Bouchette joined The Fan Morning Show on Monday to look back at the Steelers' deflating loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Bouchette thinks that the Steelers' defense simply doesn't have the pieces it needs to excel, even when healthy.
"Much was made about Troy Polamalu and Ike Taylor coming back, but what were they with those two in the lineup when they were both there?" Bouchette said. "They were about the same, this defense. The defense does not have a lot to work with, and that's a problem because they've sunk a lot of number one picks into that defense the last few years."
He believes that the drafting woes go beyond their recent first-round selections of defensive players.
"I think the drafting has to come into question," Bouchette said. "And this isn't just a Kevin Colbert thing. This is Mike Tomlin as well. I mean, that Dri Archer pick is looking worse and worse and worse... they just have not drafted well lately."
Bouchette joins "The Fan Morning Show" every morning after a Steelers game, usually Mondays at 8 a.m.
