Ed Bouchette & Bucky Brooks: CB Kevin Johnson A Great Choice For Steelers
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – "The Fan Morning Show" previewed the 2015 NFL Draft Thursday. Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette of the Post-Gazette and NFL Network draft analyst Bucky Brooks offered their thoughts on the draft.
During both interviews, Wake Forest cornerback Kevin Johnson was discussed. Each interview made it sound more and more likely that the Steelers will have their sights on Johnson in the first round.
Bouchette has the Steelers taking Johnson, although he thinks they will have trouble going wrong if they want a cornerback in the first round.
"He's an all-around cornerback," Bouchette said. "He can do it all. He may need a little strength in the future...but they need cornerbacks, and there's going to be, I think, several available to them, and it's just what their preference is. I went with him. I think this Byron Jones of Connecticut, who has been a workout warrior since the end of the season for Connecticut has just flown up draft boards too. I kind of stayed away from him, but I could see them picking him too... I went with Johnson almost as a flip of the coin."
Brooks thinks that Johnson is a versatile talent that would be a fantastic fit for the Steelers.
"He's a solid technician," Brooks said. "He can play every technique on the planet - press, off, he can bail. He's tough and physical on the edge, and I think he has that competitive spirit that you look for in Pittsburgh, meaning he's a gritty competitor, he doesn't back down from challenges, and I think he kind of has that dog in him that Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are known for looking for in their players."
