East Coast Snow Snarls Pittsburgh Air Traffic
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -A major snowstorm is pounding the east coast and is shutting down airports in New York and New England.
The impact can be felt here in Pittsburgh as travelers try to head home after the holiday weekend.
However, passengers could be stranded for days as hundreds of flights have been grounded.
We may have been lucky to avoid the snow, but airline travelers are still feeling the full force of the storm.
The line of holiday travelers stretched to the door at the Pittsburgh International Airport Monday morning.
"My scenario is that we'll spend the night in Pittsburgh. Maybe go down to [Heinz Field] and have a look around," Lindsay Gardner said.
Lindsay and his wife, Jane, are visiting from Australia and are hoping to find another flight to Providence, R.I.
A number of passengers had their flights canceled due to the severe winter storm that stretched from Raleigh, N.C. to Boston.
"I was supposed to leave here yesterday and they canceled my flight originally. I called the number they gave me. I was on hold for about an hour and a half, got cut off. Then, I had to call back, again [on hold for] about an hour and a half. Finally got through to someone and then they put me on today's flight," James Hopkins said.
If you plan to fly out in the next 48 hours, give yourself plenty of time because you may run into people who are still delayed and waiting to get on their flights.
The Greyhound bus company said it is also halting service. Greyhound buses are closed from Charlotte, N.C., up the entire East Coast and into Canada.
