Early Warning System Coming To Washington Boulevard

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – In an effort to avoid any further loss of life in Washington Boulevard flooding, crews started work today on an early warning system.

The contractor working on the system for PennDOT was putting up some test antennas on street lights along the boulevard.

Eventually, the antennas will be attached to sensors and gauges that will communicate with gates to control potential flooding.

The city of Pittsburgh will also be installing cameras as part of the system which will be monitored in Pittsburgh's 911 center and on computers in the necessary city agencies.

So far, there is no estimate on when the system will be in operation.
