Eager Dog Lovers Join Lottery To Adopt Rescued Yorkies
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A staggering 18 Yorkies were rescued on the North Side last week.
They're all cleaned up, spayed and neutered.
Executive director Dan Rossi of the Animal Rescue League says their temporary home was inundated with calls and emails, nationwide.
"We've had lots of stories you've done, Dave, where animals have become very popular, and we've had lots of interest. But not to this extent," Rossi says.
So what to do? They decided on a lottery of sorts.
Of nearly 1,700 applications, 18 were drawn at random. By the end of the day, six of those 18 had been screened by phone, and invited to make their case Tuesday afternoon.
While the Yorkies are getting all the attention, Rossi added that there are many other dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds, and even a duck, waiting for a home.
"If you don't get a Yorkie," he adds, "consider another rescue animal from us. There's plenty to choose from right now."
