Duquesne Student Robbed, 1 In Custody
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man is in police custody after a Duquesne University student was robbed Friday morning.
It happened around 6:45 a.m. as the female student was at the Armstrong Tunnel.
Police say the woman was walking across the 10th Street Bridge toward the Duquesne campus when a man walked up beside her and tried to engage her in conversation.
She tried to get away from the man, but he eventually grabbed her with his forearm across her neck and said, "Give me your money and I'll let you go. I don't want to hurt you," according to police.
The woman then gave him her wallet and he ran up the steps toward campus.
Later Friday afternoon, Duquesne University Police stopped a man who matched the suspect's description and took him into custody. The suspect is now in city police custody.
Police identify the suspect as 26-year-old Alec Burnette from South Dakota. He is has been charged with robbery and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
