Driver Flees Scene After Violent Crash That Injures 3
FAYETTE COUNTY (KDKA) – Three helicopters were called in to a violent crash in Fayette County overnight.
State Police are investigating and say three people were injured.
KDKA's Mary Robb Jackson Reports:
It happened just before 2 a.m. Thursday morning in Bullskin Township, along Route 982 near the Pleasant Valley Golf Club.
Police say the driver, 23-year-old Evan Yuhouse of Scottdale, Pa., hit a marble sign for the golf club and then took off on foot.
When they arrived on scene, there were three people injured inside the car.
Rescuers used the jaws of life to pry off the vehicle's roof to get to the passengers. Sources say the three men are ages 42, 22 and 21.
All were flown to area hospitals with major injuries -- one is categorized as having "severe injuries."
Police spent several hours Thursday looking for Yuhouse. However, police caught up with him sometime before 2:30 p.m. and are no longer searching.
KDKA's Heather Abraham Reports:
At the Yuhouse family home in Westmoreland County Thursday afternoon, Evan's mother answered the door saying he was there, but not available.
KDKA's Mary Robb Jackson: "But he seems to be okay?"
Judy Yuhouse: "We'll see. I don't know; like I said, he still has to have tests."
Officials say speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Police will have to discuss any potential charges against Yuhouse with the district attorney's office.
Jackson: "Have the state police talked to him yet? They were here earlier?"
Yuhouse: "He's already talked to them."
Jackson: "Did they say he was going to be charged?"
Yuhouse: "Not that I know of. I really would rather not comment because this all just happened."
The names of the hospitalized passengers have not been released.
