Dozens Of Landslides Reported In Local Counties
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The landslide on the West Busway doubled in size Thursday night when another section ground came crashing down and that slide is far from the only one in our area.
A slide on Lefever Hill Road in Indiana Township could take a while to clean up. Route 88 in East Bethlehem Township, Washington County, will take weeks to clean after boulders came crashing down.
A landslide is causing problems on Route 65 as well. PennDOT reports 16 active landslides in Allegheny County.
There are 54 in Washington County, but all but one are slip slides, where ground is giving way under a road rather than falling on to it.
Four slides are reported in Westmoreland County, but none is causing any traffic restrictions. There was a slide on Route 286 earlier this week.
Armstrong County reportedly has about 30 slides of varying sizes. Butler County had three slides overnight, which have been cleaned up.
Beaver County has four active slides, according to PennDOT. Lawrence County has one reported slide.
PennDOT in the district that includes Pittsburgh estimates it may cost $15 to $20 million dollars to repair the slides.
