Dozens Hold Vigil For Victims Of Belgium Terror Attacks
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Terror attacks, like the bombings at the airport and train station in Belgium last week, have become all too common events.
But, a group of Pittsburghers is showing solidarity for their people halfway around the world. Young and old, they held hands in a small circle in a sign of their unity.
"With what is happening also in other countries - it's not just French-speaking countries - it's also other countries and our hearts are already bleeding for the children and families," French Cultural Center of Pittsburgh President Myriam Gau said.
A vigil at the entry garden to Highland Park was organized by the French Cultural Center of Pittsburgh. It's the same place they gathered after the Paris attacks in November.
"We all are united against that I suppose - that everybody has the same thing in their heart, that everybody is so touched and really traumatized by what is going on right now," Benedicte Barlat said.
"We want to show the world that we can't do really something, we are just regular citizens. We don't have any power, but we just want to show the people around the world that we are with them. We think about them. That is the main message today," Gau said.
While the unity was apparent, perhaps the loudest message came from a small sign written in French. When translated, it simply reads "Brussels, the free world is with you."
