Dozens Donate Blood To Help Franklin Regional Stabbing Victims
PITTSBURGH(KDKA)-- Dozens of people donated blood Saturday at the Murrysville Community Center.
The Central Blood Bank is working to replenish its supply after the Franklin Regional stabbings.
Because of the severity of the injuries, several students needed multiple blood transfusions, including 17-year-old Jared Boger.
"As part of his treatment, the surgeries that he underwent, he actually lost the entirety of his blood volume," said Caitlyn Doyle with Central Blood Bank. "So he had to have that replaced with blood transfusions. So that is about 10-12 units of blood."
Many people in the community were there to show support.
"It hits close to home when it's a neighbor and community like this, I think it's a great idea to know that your donation is going to go further," said Megan Derry who was there to donate blood.
Blood donations Saturday far exceeded the goal of 75 units.
Boger's condition is also improving. He's been upgraded to fair condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
At Forbes Hospital, two students have also been upgraded to fair condition. Only one student there remains in critical condition.
