Dottie Sandusky Reaches Out To Paterno Family
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Dottie Sandusky, wife of Jerry Sandusky convicted of 42 counts of child abuse, shared some thoughts about her husband with former talk show host and documentarian John Ziegler.
"I know that Jerry is innocent," she told Ziegler.
She backed up her husband at the trial, saying if a child in the basement shouted out, she would have heard it.
"There is no way someone could have screamed in the basement and not been heard upstairs," she said.
But Mrs. Sandusky expressed sorrow at the whole event.
"I just hope that all people that have been hurt know how sorry we feel for them that this has happened to them."
And she retold her story of reaching out to Sue Paterno, wife of the late Coach Joe Paterno.
"Of course did not get to go to Joe Paterno's funeral. I think Jerry wrote to Sue, and I wrote to her," she told Ziegler.
"About a month later, I met her at one of our friend's funerals, and I told her I'd love to talk to her and tell her, talk about what had happened, that there was more to the story than she knew."
"And she told me she needed time to heal and she would let me know," Sandusky said. "I have not heard from her. I've written her again since, but I still haven't heard from her."
Mrs. Sandusky still hopes to hear from Mrs. Paterno and says she stands with her.
"I appreciate all the work that all the people have been doing have been fighting to restore Joe's image, and to restore Penn State, and to hopefully help Jerry," she noted.
"To all the friends who have become friends of ours through this that we didn't know before, I really appreciate their help," she added.
