Dormont Pizzeria Hoping To Be First To Deliver Wine With Pizza
DORMONT (KDKA) -- Would you like a bottle of wine to be delivered with your pepperoni pizza?
A local business wants to be the first in our area to do just that.
Giovanni's Pizza & Pasta in Dormont already has a bustling delivery business, but they want to take things one step further.
"You can call us and say you want an extra-large pepperoni pizza and a bottle of Chardonnay," said owner Fethi Turan.
They already have the license to deliver beer with your pizza, which the state began allowing about a year and a half ago.
As a further sign of relaxing liquor laws, the Giant Eagle Market District in Robinson become the first supermarket in Pennsylvania to begin selling bottled wine-to-go last month.
Giovanni's just got an email approving them for one of two necessary licenses to deliver the wine. It's for transferring wine. They've also applied for a wine-to-go or wine expanded permit.
But a spokesperson for the PLCB says the details have to be worked out before wine delivery with your pizza can become a reality.
"The question that our office of chief counsel is considering at this point is whether wine-to-go can be delivered," said Elizabeth Brassell from the PLCB. "There are certain conditions that Act 39 imposes upon the sale of wine-to-go."
For instance, the ID of anyone who appears younger than 35 has to be scanned, and the sales have to be done by someone who's at least 18 years of age.

As for how long it might take to work out these details?
"I'd say probably within a week or so, we'd have a determination on the matter," said Brassell.
Turan says they already follow rules for delivering beer with an order.
"When you call in, that order has to be paid here with a credit card," said Turan. "The person who's paying must be over 21. Every time we go to the house, we check the credit card with the matching license."
He hopes it's worked out soon so Giovanni's can be the first to deliver a bottle of vino with your pie.
"We'll be able to deliver it to you right away," he said.
