Domestic Violence Victim Remembered At Vigil On Her Birthday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Loved ones of a young woman who was brutally murdered say its torture waiting for the trial of her alleged killer to start.

In the meantime, they vow to keep her memory alive.

Dozens gathered in Brookline Thursday night to mark what would have been Karissa Kunco's 24th birthday.

Her body was found in Washington County in January of 2012. Her throat had been slashed.

Karissa's ex-boyfriend, Jordan Clemons, was later charged with homicide.

"He took a life away from me, from my family," stepsister Jamie Khalil told KDKA's Kym Gable. "The state is seeking the death penalty, so we're hoping that's what he gets 'cause that's what he deserves."

Karissa's mother, Kathy Kunco-Makowski, said, "It's true torture, waiting for this (trial). I just want my daughter to get the justice she deserves."

Karissa's Army has raised thousands of dollars for victims of violence while also keeping Karissa's memory alive.
