Police Investigating After Finding Dog, Crate Left At Dumpster
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police are investigating after finding a dog left at a dumpster in the city's Knoxville section Wednesday morning.
The dog was discovered at the dumpster located on Knox Avenue shortly before 9 a.m.
An animal crate was also found among the trash and the dog was wandering by itself in the waste and scrap.
Animal control officials took the dog to Humane Animal Rescue in Homewood, and officials have tracked down the dog's owners.
They're considering possible charges of animal cruelty.
"The animal is in decent shape, decent weight," CEO of Humane Animal Rescue Dan Rossi said. "She's a female, pitbull mix. We're thinking around 2 years of age. Obviously has had a couple of litters."
The dog will remain at Humane Animal Rescue, where she's warm, fed and being treated for worms.
She could be returned to her owners, depending on the investigation.
But if they are charged, the dog will be put up for adoption.
