Dog Found After Owner Hit, Killed By Car During Walk
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A dog that went missing after its owner was killed walking it has been found.
The dog, named Illini, ran away after owner Kimberly Moran was hit by a car in Aleppo Saturday.
Moran, 49, was walking her two Bernese mountain dogs around 8 a.m. Saturday, when a car hit a patch of ice and hit her and one of the dogs.
Moran was pinned against an electrical box and pronounced dead at the scene.
Illini ran away and the other dog was pinned under the car. The other dog was taken to a veterinarian and is expected to survive.
Friends of Moran say Illini was found around 4 p.m. Sunday near the Aleppo Municipal Building.
"I was so excited, I was so happy when i found her," said Annamarie Topolski. "She actually did growl at me a bit when I went toward the steps. I thought to myself, you can go ahead and bite me, I don't care, you're coming with me."
A group of friends and community members had been searching for the dog for the past day-and-a-half.
Friends of Moran say she would have wanted the dog found.
"She just adopted these two from a farm in Ohio," said friend Donna Kipp. "She was working with them and she absolutely lived for these dogs. They were her life, along with her husband."
Larry's Laundromutt, where Moran was a groomer, shut down for Saturday to look for the dog. Neighbors canvassed the area as well.
Friends say Moran and her husband didn't have children and that these dogs filled that role.
"These were her children and she was just a dear dear person," said Meg Forsyth. "She was gracious and she never said anything bad about anybody."
