Does Patriots' Dynasty Matchup Against Steelers' Of The 1970s?
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - There's no denying at this point that the New England Patriots, under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, have built themselves a dynasty, appearing in six Super Bowls and winning four of them.
Brad Gagnon of CBSSports.com decided to take a look at the Pats' dynasty and see how it compares to some of the biggest dynasties the NFL has ever seen, including the Steelers of the '70s.
In comparing those Steelers to the Patriots, Gagnon points out that the Steelers were able to win four Super Bowls, like the Patriots, but did it over a 6-year span rather than the 14 years it took the Belichick-Brady combo to win their four.
Other teams Gagnon considered "dynasty" worthy were the San Francisco 49ers that won four Super Bowls in four appearances from 1981-89, the Dallas Cowboys that won three Super Bowls in three appearances from 1992-95 and even goes as far back as the Cleveland Browns from 1950-55 that won three championships in six appearances and the 1961-67 Green Bay Packers that won five championships in five appearances.
Gagnon goes on to try and compare what the modern-day Patriots teams have done against the teams from years gone past and points out that the Pats still have years left where they could further add to their legacy.
