Does It Really Do That: Bottle Top

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - One problem many carbonated canned beverage drinkers face, is keeping the drink fizzy if you don't finish it, but a new product out claims it can help with that and do much more. For Amy Warner, the best part of waking up is a little fizz in her cup.

"I probably drink two to three cans of diet a day. My son drinks some and my husband drinks it like coffee, so he drinks four to five a day," Amy Warner said.

But with a 10-year-old around, some of that doesn't always make it down the hatch.

A new product called "Bottle Top" is a plastic lid that turns a 12-ounce can into a flip-top bottle.

But Does It Really Do That?

At first glance, it's a very simple concept as it snaps right onto the can, but before it was even put it to the test, Amy Warner noticed a potential deal-breaker on the package.

The Bottle Top is not dishwasher safe and they recommend washing away any beverage residue under the faucet before using it again.

Could that extra effort be worth the trouble? After all, Conner Warner had trouble just snapping one on.

"It's pretty hard, it's on tight, but it's hard to get off. I'm just afraid I'm going to break it." Amy Warner said.

First, they put the spill-proof claim to the test and found that the product doesn't spill all of the container's contents, but that a spill still occurred.

What about those half-finished cans we sometimes leave around the house?

KDKA's Jim Lokay asked Amy and Conner to open three cans of soda and leave them in the fridge for three days, sampling one each day.

The results for this soda savant were not that impressive.

After our three day test in the Warner family fridge, Amy isn't impressed.

So for our test, Bottle Top is at the bottom of the list.
