Police: Dirt Bike Rider Hit Woman, Girl, Carjacked Vehicle
DREXEL HILL, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a man accused of striking a woman and a child in a crosswalk near Philadelphia while on a dirt bike following a police pursuit - and then carjacking a vehicle to escape - faces charges including robbery, aggravated assault and fleeing police.
Police said 32-year-old Caliph Douglass of Philadelphia was arraigned Sunday in a hospital bed at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Officials allege that after Philadelphia police tried to arrest him on the dirt bike, he fled into Delaware County and struck the victims in Upper Darby, critically injuring the 6-year-old girl and also injuring a 44-year-old relative.
Police allege that he then fled in a carjacked vehicle but was arrested nearby. Court documents don't list a defense attorney and a listed number for Douglass couldn't be found Sunday.
