Diocese Of Pittsburgh To Host Talent Show

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A week from Sunday, sisters, brothers, and lay people of the Catholic faith will share their talents with the public. "A Celebration of the Arts" is sponsored by the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

One of the features artists is 92-year-old Sister Mary Richard, who paints on china. She feels a divine presence as she works.

"All the time, He's helping me all these days," she says. "It's amazing that I can do this any more, and I thank him for giving me that grace."

She's one of 21 visual artists whose work will be presented on March 6, at St. Paul Seminary in Crafton.

"We have a great variety of artists, both sisters and brothers, and a couple of lay people who have been influenced in art by sisters," says Sister Gerri Wodarczyk.

"Pittsburgh has a lot of talent, and we're going to see a good expression of that in the visual arts and the performing arts," adds Sister Marita Juras.

Teen prodigy Nathan Pallotta will play the piano. And Sister Janelle Banko will add her voice to a group of folk singers.

"I have been a musician in he diocese since the 1970s," she says. "And I thought it would be fun to get together all of these people who've been in this group, over the years."

Ayisha Morgan-Lee will lead the young performers of the Hill Dance Academy Theater.

"It is in honor of the sisters and a celebration of the arts, to say thank you for all that they have done for us," she says.

Admission is free, and open to the public. But visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to the sisters' food pantry.
