DFW Furniture Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Three DFW furniture stores in the Pittsburgh area have closed their doors, after the Columbus, Ohio-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The stores are in McCandless, Pleasant Hills and Washington.
A notice posted on the door of the McCandless store says it hopes to reopen in early December after a bankruptcy court hearing.
Chris Portman told KDKA-TV News that he bought furniture at the McCandless store three weeks ago. He was told it might not be shipped for another month and a half.
When he asked for his $700 back, he was told he couldn't because of the bankruptcy filing.
"We bought an Ashley Furniture-branded recliner sofa and a loveseat with a console in it, and we started making some payments - $50 on a Visa card and $726 in cash," said Portman.
Portman, after filling out a claim form, is applying to the court as a creditor, to try to recoup at least some of his losses. He says he feels abandoned by DFW.
"If I could recoup anything that would be a positive for my wife and I," he said.
