Devils Trade Jaromir Jagr To The Florida Panthers
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - There have been rumors swirling of the Pittsburgh Penguins interest in possibly trading for New Jersey Devils winger Jaromir Jagr, but those hopes have been dashed as the Devils traded the future Hall of Fame to the Florida Panthers.
The 43-year-old Jagr has put up 11 goals and 18 assists in 57 games for the Devils this year, while seeing his playing time cut down.
The return the Devils received of a second-round pick in 2015 and a conditional third-round pick is similar to what the Penguins gave up for forward David Winnik when they traded for him on Wednesday.
The Pens sent a 2015 fourth-round draft pick and a 2016 second-round draft pick along with forward Zach Sill to the Maple Leafs while the Leafs picked up some of the salary still owed to Winnik the rest of this year.
Penguins General Manager Jim Rutherford spoke after the team's trade for Winnik on Wednesday and was asked if he had any other trades in the works at the time.
"Nothing that we are looking at right now, but I don't think we should close the door," Rutherford said. "We have until Monday and we'll keep our ear to the ground. This was an important one for us. Glad to get it out of the way."
