Details of WVU Settlement Released
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Details of West Virginia's $20 million settlement were released Wednesday.
The Mountaineers can leave the Big East for the Big XII next year because of a large buyout and some provisions it must provide to Big East members that remain. Here are some of the details:
- WVU's settlement includes the $2.5 million paid to the Big East in October. A settlement payment of $8.5 million is due Friday and the Big East will also recoup revenue earned by WVU for 2011-12, which is estimated at $9 million.
- Pitt and Syracuse can request that WVU use "reasonable best efforts" to help fill holes left in their schedules by the Mountaineers' departure. If so, both schools could potentially schedule Big XII opponents for next season.
- WVU has no rights to Big East revenue distribution after June 30.
- Both sides have agreed not to make "disparaging comments about any other party."
