Despite Big Day, Big Ben Seeks Better Finish
OAKLAND (93-7 THE FAN) -- A day on which Ben Roethlisberger went 36-of-49 for 384 yards and four touchdowns, flirting with career highs, wasn't enough for him, and it wasn't enough for the Steelers, either, who fell, 34-31, in Oakland Sunday.
"We've got to finish," the quarterback said after his team squandered a fourth-quarter lead and fell to 1-2 entering its bye week. "I want the ball. I went out there, and said to our offense that this is what we want, 80 yards to win the game. We feel like we're close. We're just not there yet."
Roethlisberger hooked up with tight end Heath Miller for a pair of first-half touchdowns, then improvised a TD toss to a wide-open Mike Wallace in the third quarter before also connecting with Antonio Brown to provide the Steelers' final margin.
Not only did the Steelers expand their playbook in Week 3, but according to Big Ben, they also amended it.
"Offensively we did things we wanted to do. We called plays that aren't in our playbook...things we had in years past, where we had guys on the same page, and it worked," he explained.
