Defense Rests In Sandusky Trial, Closing Arguments Set For Thursday

BELLEFONTE (KDKA) – The defense has rested in the child sex abuse trial of Jerry Sandusky.

According to KDKA-TV's Harold Hayes, the defense wrapped up their case just before noon without putting Sandusky on the stand. Closing arguments will be held on Thursday and then the jury will begin deliberations.

During the morning session, Dr. Jonathan Dranov took the stand and testified about a conversation he had with Mike McQueary the night he allegedly saw Sandusky in the shower with a boy.

"Mike was visibly shaken and upset. He said a young boy looked around. I asked him if the boy seemed upset or frightened. He said no. He said the boy looked at him then someone pulled him away. We he looked again he saw Jerry Sandusky coming out of the shower," Dr. Jonathan Dranov said.

Earlier in the trial, McQueary told the jury he saw the boy with hands up against the wall with Sandusky behind him in a sexual position.

Both sides also agreed to a stipulation regarding the testimony of Harrisburg Patriot News reporter Sarah Ganim.

Ganim and the paper have challenged the subpoena.

The jury was told had she testified, she would be asked, "Did you contact the mother of an alleged victim and give her information about contacting the prosecution? And her answer would be yes."

The next witness was Chad Rexrode from Pittsburgh, who was involved in the Second Mile program.

He testified that Sandusky took him in because he had no father figure. He testified that he came today because, "the guy's done so much for me."

David Hilton, from Lancaster County, then testified that Sandusky helped him with academics because he would fall behind because both of his parents are deaf.

He said he was never molested.

Hilton went on to say that he was interviewed by police three or four times and he, "felt like they wanted me to say something that wasn't true."

On cross-examination prosecutor Joseph McGettigan asked if he had ever told him to tell a lie.

"No," Hilton said. "You're a cool guy."

Earlier in the day, Judge Cleland announced Juror 6, a female, was too ill to come to court. She was replaced by Alternate Juror 13, who is also a woman.
