Monroeville Home-Invasion Suspect Shot, Killed By Police
MONROEVILLE (KDKA) - Allegheny County Police are looking into a deadly police-involved shooting in Monroeville Monday night.
According to police, officers were called to a home in the 200-block of East Patty Lane around 10 p.m.
Police initially believed this was a home-invasion, but the suspect was no stranger to the homeowner.
Police said the homeowner was approached outside by a man with a gun and was forced inside the home.
"It was a home-invasion/burglary. The owner of the home was not injured and was able to escape from the home and call 911," Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman said.
When police arrived, they found a white male leaving the house.
The suspect allegedly had a handgun and refused to listen to an officer when told to put it down.
At that time, police said he opened fire on the officer.
The officer returned fire and hit the suspect, who has been identified as Paul Slimick, 26, of Freeport.
Slimick was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
Slimick was the ex-boyfriend of a woman the homeowner is currently dating.
The officer was not hurt in the incident and has been placed on administrative leave.
County Police will turn over all their findings at the end of the investigation to the District Attorney's Office for review.
