One dead, one injured in early-morning Fayette County house fire
NORTH UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) — One person was killed and another was injured when a house caught fire early Friday morning in Fayette County.
Dispatchers confirmed to KDKA-TV that the coroner had been called to the scene of the fire along Coolspring-Jumonville Road in North Union Township. The fire broke out around 2:15 a.m., according to dispatchers.
The coroner's officer identified the deceased as 70-year-old John Capan. The cause and manner of death are under investigation.
One other person was transported to the hospital with injuries from the fire. Their condition is unknown at this time.
A neighbor, Gidget Wiedwald saw the scene when looking out of the windows in her living room.
"I walked out into the living room and my windows were like bright, bright light," said Gidget Wiedwald.
Officials told KDKA-TV that Capan's body was found by firefighters battling the flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
"When I heard that John had passed, I was very sad," Wiedwald said.
It's unclear what sparked the fire.
