1 Dead, 4 Injured In Monroeville Crash
MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- Authorities have now identified the man who was killed in a two-vehicle accident that left four others injured Thursday night in Monroeville.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. along Saunders Station Road when a car and SUV collided head on.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 74-year-old Francis Spearman of Wilkinsburg.
Allegheny County police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
"At this point, it appears to be a two-vehicle crash," said Chief Doug Cole, of Monroeville Police. "Obviously, we'll let the county determine the cause of the crash and it appears we have one fatality."
Authorities say Spearman lost control of his car and slammed head on into the SUV.
"He was just such a good man, very loving and kind-hearted person," said Sheila Evans, Spearman's friend. "Nobody expected him to go this way, but then, we know God is serving in all things and we trust him even in this."
According to Spearman's family, he was driving with both his wife and ex-wife when the crash occurred. He had just picked the ex-wife up from the airport.
Both women were taken to the hospital.
Two people in the SUV were also hospitalized.
The accident blocked a stretch of road between Fox Borough and Penn Township Thursday night while officials investigated and cleared the scene.
