Daycare Evacuated After Sinkhole Opens Up In Westmoreland County
WESTMORELAND COUNTY (KDKA) -- Residents in Westmoreland County are dealing with the impacts of Thursday's severe weather.
A sinkhole opened under the playground at the North Huntingdon KinderCare on the 8000 block of Norwin Avenue.
The playground's sinkhole is located behind the school, but is not posing any immediate danger to the KinderCare's building structure.
"When I dropped her off this morning, the parking lot was pretty flooded," parent Nia Dalton said. "I had to carry (my daughter) in."
The school evacuated students, and emergency officials were on the scene.
Two trees also fell on two cars near the KinderCare.
There is also running water and flooded streets in Irwin.
Tenth St. near Route 30 is flooded, and emergency officials were on the scene to pull out a sedan stuck in high water. The storm drains on Route 30 could not keep up with the heavy rains.
Manor Borough is also dealing with flooding from the torrential rain.
Brush Creek Road flooded, leaving basements with standing water. KDKA's Ross Guidotti was on the scene and saw a dumper and port-a-potty floating down the flooded roads. He also saw residents outside their homes cleaning up trash.
"It's never gotten this bad," homeowner David Murphy said.
In Youngwood, waters and cars drove through flooded streets, sending water into the Youngwood Railroad Museum on Depot Street.
In South Greensburg, Route 119 was flooded out, leaving cars stuck in the water.
The Penn Township Ambulance Association said it responded to reports of three persons trapped by rising flood waters.
Evacuations were also required in the Penn Borough, and nine people were moved to safety, the association announced.
