Darryl Hamilton: "Stealing Signs Is Part Of The Game"
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - After all the discussion this past Pirates series in Milwaukee about the Brewers having some sort of unfair advantage possibly due to stealing signs, The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi decides to get an opinion from someone who should know.
Fillipponi talked to former Brewer and Met Daryl Hamilton who is now an analyst for MLB Network.
Hamilton puts no stock in rumors that Milwaukee is stealing signs any more than any other team.
"If you're not trying to get every advantage that you can, you're not trying to win," he said.
Hamilton knew guys who had tricks to pick up signs but everybody did it to some extent. There is no secret method in existence to steal signs at certain stadiums, teams just usually feel more comfortable at home.
Just the idea of such deception gets into the heads of opposing players. Luck or bad pitches are usually to blame for hits but sometimes the culprit in signs being "stolen" is lazy catchers who do not bother to block the view of guys at first base.
There are so many things going on in a game that the average fan does not notice.
