Daniel Sprong: Very Happy To Be Drafted By the Penguins
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The Penguins selected Daniel Sprong, a 6-foot, 180-pound right winger, with the 46th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Sprong scored 39 goals and had 88 points in 2014-15 for Charlottetown in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Some pre-draft projections had Sprong as a first-round pick, but Sprong told Bob Pompeani that he didn't know why he fell.
"I have no idea. It's not in my control. Maybe the teams didn't want me, they wanted someone else. But I'm very happy that I slipped to Pittsburgh. It's a great organization, and I can't wait to get started, and I'm really excited," Sprong said.
Sprong told Pompeani that he will bring an offensive-minded game to the organization.
"I'm a scorer, playmaker. I just bring an excitement to the game. I love playing the game, and very offensive minded. I need to work on my defensive game, my game without the puck," Sprong said.
Sprong was born in Amsterdam, and got into hockey because his father was a player. He also became a Penguins fan after working with the skating coach who trained Evgeni Malkin and Sergei Gonchar. So what would it be like to skate on a line with Malkin or Sidney Crosby, whom he met as a child?
"If that happens, just an unbelievable thing, and I'll be looking forward to it," Sprong said.
