Daniel McCutchen Rejoins Pirates
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Relief pitcher Daniel McCutchen has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, and pitchers Kyle McPherson and Justin Wilson have returned there, the Pirates announced before their Tuesday evening game at San Diego.
In addition, recently acquired bullpen arm Chad Qualls is off the bereavement list.
The right-handed McCutchen, 29, has yet to pitch with the big-league club this year due to injury, but went 5-3 with a 3.72 ERA out of the 'pen last year, striking out 47 and walking 33.
McPherson and Wilson each made their MLB debut in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Padres. McPherson put up zeroes in two innings, allowing one hit and recording two K's. Wilson started by allowing back-to-back hits, but then struck out the side in the ninth.
According to Kristy Robinson of PiratesProspects.com, it remains a strong possibility at least one of those two returns when MLB clubs expand their rosters Sept. 1.
Qualls, who was traded to the Pirates from the Yankees July 31, has allowed five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, making seven Pirate appearances.
