Man Accused Of Sending Suspicious Package To "Dance Moms" Stars Speaks Out From Jail

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A YouTube video shows some of the obsession 36-year-old Phoenix Sundown has with the young stars of Lifetime reality show "Dance Moms."

The California man was taken into custody after US Post Office investigators say he sent five packages that were addressed to five underage girls, all on the reality TV show.

The show is filmed at Abby Lee's Dance Studio in Penn Hills, but the materials were reportedly sent to a P.O. Box which is located in Murrysville.

That mailbox is for the young stars. The items were pornographic in nature and were destroyed by the bomb squad on Tuesday.

Sundown, who spoke with news crews from a San Diego jail after his arrest says he didn't think he was doing anything wrong and that he started liking the Pittsburgh dancers through their social media pages.

"The way these young girls that are famous and I was talking on social media direct was completely sane," he said. "I would never harm any children, I have never had sex with any children."

But postal officials say Sundown's sent those packages before, to local stars and others around the country.

While in jail, Sundown showed a tattoo on his throat he says is a zombie version of Abby Lee.

TMZ reports Sundown was diagnosed with a mental disorder while serving time for assaulting his then-girlfriend in 2007.

The website says Sundown had violent fantasies about actress Lindsay Lohan and would post pictures of Elizabeth Smart on social media, tagging the Dance Moms stars adding the hashtag #FutureGoals. That activity was immediately reported to police.

"Once people start doing these types of things, things do escalate and we want to get him before that happens," said US Postal Inspector Tammy Mayle.
