Dan Rooney Receives Jackie Robinson Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney received a special honor in New York City Monday night.
Rooney received the Jackie Robinson Foundation's lifetime achievement award at their annual awards dinner.
"I'm very proud to receive this award. It's a great award. Jackie Robinson was a tremendous person and did so much for the young people in this country," Rooney said. I was very pleased to take this [award.]"
Rooney was a driving force behind what's known as the "Rooney Rule."
It requires NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate when they're looking to hire a head coach.
