Dan Marino Latest To File NFL Concussion Suit
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – NFL Hall-of-Famer and Pittsburgh Native Dan Marino is one of 14 former players suing the league, claiming he suffered concussion-related injuries during his 16 years as a professional football player.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia.
The former Miami Dolphins quarterback doesn't allege any specific injuries, but the boiler-plate language related to all plaintiffs reads that they suffered "repetitive, traumatic sub-concussive and/or concussive head impacts."
KDKA went to local sports agent and former NFL player Ralph Cindrich for reaction.
"I think you have to address all the concerns, medically on the field, the health of the players, who are your workers," he said. "There's a lot of money in this game."
The new litigation is separate from an even larger ongoing lawsuit in which over 4,500 former players are suing the NFL.
They claim the league covered up the dangers of concussions and didn't face the issue head-on.
"Even a guy like Danny with this case, he may or may not participate in any type of settlement. He may be doing it for the sake of the group," suggested Cindrich.
The Hall of Fame quarterback and former University of Pittsburgh player is seeking compensation in the form of "medical monitoring and unspecified financial recovery."
