Dan Bylsma Talks Rob Scuderi, Impact He'll Make On Kris Letang
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - After the Penguins signed Defenseman Rob Scuderi on Friday, head coach Dan Bylsma joined Colin Dunlap on Sports Radio 93.7 The Fan. Bylsma said that Scuderi could be a "good fit" on the blue line with Kris Letang, who recently re-signed with the team.
"To play alongside of Kris Letang would be a good fit – a steadying influence, a defense-first guy, a very good shutdown guy – without a question be a guy that you'd see a Kris Letang I think be a good fit with together on that blue line. We know I think also [that] Rob is going to step right in and be a very good penalty-killing guy for our team as well."
According to Bylsma, Scuderi is just as talented and athletic as he was four years ago when he was a member of the Stanley Cup-winning Penguins.
"I think you're going to see a lot of the same. It's not a flashy game, it's not a join-the-rush type of game from a defensemen. [He's] a really solid defender; a stay-at-home guy, a really reliable guy."
The former L.A. Kings defenseman signed a four-year deal worth $13.5 million with the Penguins on Friday.
Bylsma also addressed being Team USA's Head Coach in the 2014 Winter Olympics and how he'll handle those duties along with coaching the Penguins.
