Damage Reports Begin To Come In As Sandy Lashes Pittsburgh Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- As Superstorm Sandy made landfall along the coast of New Jersey around 8 p.m. Monday, the rain and winds began to pick up here in Pittsburgh, drenching the area.
Some reports of damage have started to filter in across the local area, including downed trees and power lines and some minor street and basement flooding.
In Pittsburgh's Hays neighborhood, Streets Run Road had to be closed off late Monday evening near Chapon's Greenhouse. It was shut down between the City of Pittsburgh and Baldwin Borough.
As of late Monday night, there was no word on how long that closure would last.
There was some minor basement flooding reported in Pitcairn near Monroeville.
In Westmoreland County, a retaining wall behind the post office in Vandergrift collapsed. No injuries were reported in that incident.
There were also reports of trees down in other sections of town.
