Crosby To Miss NHL All-Star Game
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Sidney Crosby has missed the last eight games for the Penguins with a mild concussion. Now, he's going to miss the NHL All-Star Game this weekend.
According to a press release from the team, Crosby will not take part in the festivities from Jan. 28-30 in Raleigh, N.C.
"Sidney is making progress in his recovery but still is not completely symptom-free," General Manager Ray Shero said in making the announcement. "The Penguins organization has decided that he will not attend the NHL All-Star Weekend and instead will continue to relax and recuperate in the hopes of returning to our lineup soon."
Crosby also won't play in the team's final game before the All-Star break when the New York Islanders come to town Tuesday night.
Shero said that the NHL office was understanding of the team's wishes to hold Crosby out so he can focus on his recovery.
"I spoke with Brendan Shanahan of the NHL office and informed him of our decision. Brendan was very understanding and offered Sidney his best wishes for a quick return to the lineup," Shero said.
Evgeni Malkin has missed the past two games with a sinus infection and a knee injury. No official word has been given about his status for the All-Star Game at this time.
In addition to Crosby and Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury and Kris Letang were voted into the game by the fans.
