Crosby Skates With Injured Teammates Before Practice

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Sidney Crosby was back on the ice Monday before the rest of the team took the ice for practice.

According to the Penguins' official website, Crosby was on the ice with injured teammates Jordan Staal and Simon Despres along with strength and conditioning coach Mike Kadar for about 45 minutes.

Crosby has been out of the Penguins lineup since Dec. 5 with "concussion-like symptoms," but new information about his injury situation was revealed over the weekend.

According to a  report on Sportsnet.ca, an MRI showed what was believed to be an, "abnormality with Crosby's C1 and C2 vertebrae."

The Penguins followed that news with a statement which read:

"The diagnosis of Dr. Robert S. Bray, a neurological spine specialist based in Los Angeles, is that Sidney Crosby had suffered a neck injury in addition to a concussion. Dr. Bray reports that the neck injury is fully healed. Those findings will be evaluated by independent specialists over the next few days. The most important goal all along has been Sidney's return to full health, and we are encouraged that progress continues to be made."

Crosby was in California for most of last week meeting with the neurological spine specialist.
