Crosby Skates For 1st Time Since Suffering Concussion
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Given the lack of recent status updates, it would probably be wise to not read too much into the latest news regarding Sidney Crosby. However, it is exciting.
For the first time since suffering a concussion, Crosby took the ice at CONSOL Energy Center in full gear for about 15 minutes Monday morning.
According to the Penguins' official website, Crosby stick-handled through some cones and shot some pucks. The team has posted video of Crosby on the ice as well.
After the brief skate, Crosby said he has been symptom free for a few days and has been doing light workouts on an exercise bike.
He's missed the last 29 games after taking two hits up high in consecutive games at the beginning of January.
Former Washington Capital David Steckel collided with Crosby, in what the league deemed to be incidental contact, during the Winter Classic. Then, on Jan. 5, Tampa Bay's Victor Hedman checked Crosby from behind into the boards behind the net. Crosby got up off the ice in obvious pain and has not played since.
Crosby has 32 goals and 34 assists in only 41 games this season.
However, there has been no indication from the team that he is close to returning. Officials with the team have continually said that there is no timetable for his return when asked.
Crosby also did not make any guarantees that he would be back on the ice on Tuesday. He said today is just another step in his recovery.
Also on the ice before practice were Eric Tangradi, Brooks Orpik and Mike Comrie.
