Crosby Won't Rule Out Possible Friday Return
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/93-7 The FAN) – The Pittsburgh Penguins returned to the ice Monday morning with all eyes on Sidney Crosby, who said he wouldn't rule out the possibility of returning to the ice Friday against Dallas.
The Penguins' captain has been making progress in his recovery from a concussion he suffered in early January.
Crosby gave no concrete indication after practice on whether or not he'd be ready by Friday. Rather, he said his return will be based on another string of solid practices.
"Nothing's changed," Crosby said, according to the team's official website. "Just going to get a good week of practice here, that's for sure. See how everything goes."
Crosby added he'd like to play Friday, but that's no different than his feelings leading up to any recent games.
"I'd love (my return) to be (Friday), but I would have loved it to be on the West Coast trip too," he said. "I didn't play there. So there's a lot of different guesses, but like I said, everyone else's guesses are as good as mine."
He maintained that his focus right now is on giving the doctors feedback about how he feels.
Pittsburgh is getting a much-deserved break from the schedule makers, which will hopefully allow some of their injured players to heal up. The schedule picks up later this week with Dallas being in town on Friday before the Pens head to Carolina on Saturday.
"We are not waiting for an epiphany to make a decision," Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said. "He's progressing. He's going down that road. I'll reiterate to you again, there is not a timetable or date right now that we know and you don't. He's continuing to practice with the team. He got back out there after the weekend. He'll continue to practice with the team this week. There is no timetable."
