Crime Stoppers: Police Hope Witnesses Will Come Forward In Fatal Shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two months after a Hill District man was gunned down in a city neighborhood where violent crime is all too common, police have appealed to the public for help.
It was a hot summer day last July 31 when a construction worker made a gruesome discovery in the 7300-block of Bennett Street in Homewood.
The victim, 48-year-old Mark Williams, aka "Biz-Mark," of the Hill District, was found lying face down in the grass. He died of a gunshot wound to the head.
The shooting, police said, happened several hours prior to Williams' body being found.
"One neighbor reported that she heard a gunshot about 11:45 the night before, and when she looked out her window, she described a black Honda Acura speeding away from that area on Bennett Street," said Lt. Daniel Herrmann, of Pittsburgh Police.
Detectives immediately canvassed the neighborhood. Days later they said they had made substantial progress in the investigation, but they did not have enough to make an arrest.
Lt. Herrmann said detectives now have developed a suspect, who's in jail on an unrelated charge.
"Homicide detectives worked the case. They developed a suspect, he's currently incarcerated in the Allegheny County Jail," said Lt. Herrmann. "Now detectives need more information, more evidence before they can obtain an arrest warrant for this actor in jail."

Information leading to an arrest and conviction could be worth up to $1,000.
With a prime suspect already locked up, police hope they've pretty much eliminated the neighborhood fear factor of coming forward.
