Water Main Break Causes Problems In Homewood

HOMEWOOD (KDKA) - A water main break in Homewood sent water rushing down the street and into people's homes Tuesday morning.

According to officials, the line ruptured on Lincoln Avenue near Arbor Street.

"Wake up to a big pop and thought somebody hit something," Marquita Thomason said.

The scarred black top shows where an 8-inch water line ripped open and spewed water, rock and mud.

"And there was a big flood coming up out of the sewer, real nasty, brown water. I mean it ran for a few hours," Thomasaon said.

Thousands of gallons of water rushed down the street. However, across the street, there was not a drop to drink or for that matter, to do anything else.

"I thought I was dreaming and I was scared," Shakor Wilder said.

According to the City of Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority, the exact cause of the blowout isn't known but it is likely the result of old age and weather.

Full repairs are expected by early Tuesday evening.
