Crews Battle Fire At West Mifflin Apartment
WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- A fire at a West Mifflin apartment building sent heavy smoke into the air Thursday evening.
The blaze broke out at the Monview Heights housing complex around 7:30 p.m. along Midway Drive.
A grease fire reportedly started in one apartment, and then spread to another.
Some men went around alerting residents to get out.
"I was in my apartment with my step-daughter and a few gentlemen came banging on the door. I smelled some smoke before, but a couple of gentlemen were banging on the door and told me to get out and grab my step-daughter because the house was on fire two doors down," said Marcus McClellan, a resident. "So I got out, grabbed a couple things and we've been out here ever since. And the fire department came and you can see all the firemen and the fire marshal and everybody."
The Red Cross is assisting several people left homeless by the fire.
No injuries were reported.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause.
