2-Alarm Fire Spreads To Neighboring Home In Hill District

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A two-alarm fire spread to a neighboring home in the Pittsburgh's Hill District this morning.

Fighterfighters worked hard to fight the blaze that was slowed down by fire hydrants not working properly.

The fire was reported around 7:50 a.m. in the 700-block of Watt Lane between Webster and Bedford Avenues early Thursday morning.

Audrey Anderson watched a lot of her plans go up in smoke when the vacant home her family planned to renovate for rental property caught fire and quickly spread to two alarms.

"Thank God there was nobody in the house. We were able to get the dog out and nobody was hurt," Anderson says.

Investigators are trying to determine what started the fire in the empty home. There was construction debris and trash inside the home, which may have contributed to how quickly the fire spread.

While Anderson was grateful for how quickly firefighters responded to this fire, the size of the street was an obstacle to deal with once they arrived.

"We had a dead hyrant, but the guys did a good job, it was a small, tight street, we had to get cars moved, fire investigation is investigating the cause of the fire right now," Assistant Fire Chief Keith Bradley says.

KDKA's Harold Hayes Reports:

Firefighters had low pressure in another hydrant and will determine the cause of the issue later today. Ideally, firefighters like to have two hydrants with good water pressure available for the size of the fire this morning.

No injuries were reported as result of the incident.
