PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – State police are investigating a traffic accident that killed a Butler woman Saturday night.
It happened around 5 p.m. on State Route 368 in Perry Township, KDKA's news partners at the Post-Gazette reported.
State police say that the passenger, 35-year-old Joann Marie Carpenter, was ejected from the car and found about 75 feet from the Dodge Durango.
The car had rolled over several times.
Carpenter was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
The driver, 40-year-old Charles Shreffler, was traveling east when he drove off the road, into the berm and struck a utility pole.
Police say Shreffler was also not wearing a seatbelt and suffered major injuries. He was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
State police told the Post-Gazette that alcohol did play a part in the accident.
